The University of Benin has taken another giant
step in its academic curricular, introducing electronic education
programme, otherwise known as e-DON(e-Class Linkages) learning. This
makes UNIBEN the first university in Nigeria to commence electronic
education programme initiative.
UNIBEN, the first university in Nigeria to
commence such educational programme, is partnering with Lincoln
University, USA, with 80 students drawn from the Faculty of Agriculture
and Botany of the institution in a direct lecture and interaction with
lecturers of Lincoln University. The e-DON Programme Coordinator,
Idonuagbe Akogun, who is also the facilitator of the electronic
education initiative, said the programme was set up to create and
sustain international linkages between developed countries and
developing ones through their institutions of learning.
According to him, “Our vision is to carve out a
synergy where schools across the world can interact in real time via
cyber and virtual avenues.” creating a way for students to have first
hand learning experience with their peers and foreign faculties from
different countries.” He disclosed that efforts were being made with the
Federal Ministry of Education, National Universities Commission (NUC)
and other public and private agencies to explore ways of making the
programme nationwide.
