American actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie was named an honorary dame by Queen Elizabeth II during a private ceremony on Friday.
The actress was presented with "Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George" for her work fighting against the use of sexual violence as a weapon during periods of war.
The film star has been known for her charity work throughout her career. In June, Jolie hosted a global summit to end sexual violence during conflict in London alongside the British Foreign Secretary William Hague. - Time.com
