ARE BLACK WOMEN ANGRY THAT ROMEO MILLER IS IN AN INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIP?!

Yesterday, Master P’s son, Romeo Miller, ignited a social media storm when he introduced his White girlfriend via Instagram. “That face you make when you take a selfie w/your white gf and you thinking about all the racist comments that’s bout to be under your comments lol || Naw but really … just trying to show my boo @toneatam the city (since it’s her 1st time), but it’s cold as h—, I swear I’m not crying haha❄️ #NewYorkCity #IDontTakeSocialMediaSerious #JustLive #InterracialDatingIsOk #Its2015 #IJustLoveWomen #BlackOrWhite,” read the caption.

And while some fans pointed out that this may be the same young woman the rapper’s been linked to for the last two years, Miller’s comment along with his hashtags prompted a slew of heated feedback, which begged the question: Are Black women jealous of Romeo’s interracial relationship?

So, as a Black woman, let me break it down for you … are we jealous? Absolutely not. It was not Miller’s unveiling of his White girlfriend, but the fact that he took the time to draw extra attention to something that was obvious. It was almost as if he wanted people to hate on his relationship. And while I cannot speak for the rest of the world, at the end of the day, I couldn’t care less about who Romeo Miller dates.

We live in a day and age where celebrities who have the opportunity to use their platform to for the greater good use social media to highlight all the wrong things. This was the case for the rapper-actor. No one should dictate who Miller or anyone else dates. I think that William Shakespeare put it best — “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.” If it were us, we would have just practiced a little less drama and a lot more tact when it came to sharing the details of our love lives via social media.

After all, if you are not looking for someone’s opinion, social media is not the outlet to air out your dating moves; especially regarding a subject as sensitive as interracial dating.
